Writing Essays

The Introduction

  • start off with a good hook - make the opening line interesting.
  • present your position
  • give your reasons
  • transition into the body

hook - first sentence, used to grab the reader's attention
transition - ends one paragraph, gets the reader ready for the next one
for example:
… It is important to look more in depth at these reasons.
… There are many more reasons, but these are most important.
… These are three significant advantages of the film, and they are worth investigating.
