MACBETH

Why is Shakespeare still so popular?

  • mastery of the English language
  • deals with universal human themes

Why is it difficult to get into Shakespeare?

  • language is old (roughly two centuries before the first English dictionary)
  • language he used was hard to understand even in his time
  • steep learning curve
  • it's not something we're used to

Personal response:

1. What do you want most out of life? What would you be willing to do in order to achieve it?

2. Is it ever ok to commit murder? If no, then why not; if yes, then under what circumstances would it be alright?

3. What is loyalty? What does it mean to be loyal, and how far should it go? If your best friend did something that was wrong - and that they could get in serious trouble for - what would you do?
